Application stages and benefits of PPG T409 Envirobase Paint:
The High Performance Paint system is a range of water-based Matt basecoats used to repaint vehicles using the two-coat process. It accurately reproduces the original colours of the vehicles to be repaired (opaque, metallic, micas, special-effect tints), offering excellent recast and coverage properties.

PPG Envirobase application steps:
1. Preparing the application surface :
Use a professional degreaser and a microfibre cloth to degrease your surface so that it is free of dust and residues. Dry thoroughly before cleaning again using PPG water-based Degreaser D8401 (1L).
Tech'team tip: It is important to clean and dry all surfaces after each work phase. Wipe the surface immediately using a clean, dry cloth.
2. Sanding and priming :
- Original finishes: sand with Carross brand P500 Abrasive discs.
- PPG undercoats: sand with abrasive papers starting with the grit recommended on the primer data sheet, then finish with a P500 dry abrasive or a fine-grit abrasive pad.
- Plastic car parts : Prepare and use primers according to PPG recommendations for plastic paint systems.
3. Mixing :
We recommend the addition of T492 High Performance Additive for front end repair (bumpers and wheel arches). Below 35°C: Envirobase Thinner T494 available in 5L cans.
Tech'team tip: If you add 10% Thinner, it is important to strictly observe the evaporation drying times between coats and before applying the Clearcoat.
The optimum viscosity is 20 to 27 seconds. However, this may vary according to the level of dilution chosen. Remember to shake well before use.
4. Application and drying time :
Use a Spray gun with a plastic paint tank designed for water-based products. Adjust the Nozzle between 1.2 mm and 1.4 mm.
Apply a first coat, then wait a few moments for your surface to dry before applying the second. Then apply a placement veil over dry film with an input spray pressure of 1.2-1.5 bar (except opaque colours).
Tech'team tip: A placement veil that is too dry causes powdering, which encourages the Clearcoat to peel off.
- Evaporation time before Clearcoat application: minimum 15 minutes
- Dry film thickness: 10-20 µm
