Properties of the VOC Epoxy 840R primer
The 840R primer offers very good resistance to moisture, corrosion and chemical attack. As a chromate free epoxy primer, it provides excellent adhesion to properly prepared metal substrates. It is both flexible and has high filling power. This product is VOC compliant (VOC IIB(c) 540 g/). Off-white in colour, it can be tinted up to VS5 using Cromax AM5.
Preparation of the bodywork primer
Surfacer 840R must be mixed with other products depending on the chosen application:
It can be coloured with AM Centari® MasterTints® bases up to a maximum of 10 per cent by weight.
Application of 840R primer
840R is applied in 2 to 3 coats requiring sanding and 1–2 coats as a primer-topcoat without sanding. The second application is carried out once a matt finish has been achieved.
Apply using a gravity-fed spray gun with a 1.3–1.5 mm nozzle and a pressure of 1.5–2 bar / 0.7 bar (HVLP).

Substrates compatible with primer 840R
This product is suitable for:
- Rough surfaces such as shot-blasted metals.
- Bare metal (steel, aluminium and galvanized steel)
- Original finishes
- Previous oven-cured repairs
- Cromax polyester putties
It can be overcoated with all Cromax 2K base coats and topcoats. Please note: it must not be applied over acid-based primers (wash primers).
