Q-Bond: adhesives and reinforcing powders for plastic and metal repairs
Q-Bond is a brand specialising in solutions for the repair and reconstruction of parts, which has been serving car workshops, mechanics and maintenance professionals for around twenty years. Distributed in over 50 countries, the Q-Bond brand is built around a simple concept: repairing a damaged part rather than replacing it. Its system combines an instant adhesive with reinforcing powders that enable the material to be filled, reshaped and strengthened on plastics, rubber, composites and metals. In bodywork, Q-Bond meets the workshop’s day-to-day needs: cracked bumpers, torn-off mounting brackets, clips, supports and trim. Its products prioritise speed of application, versatility and compatibility with preparation and paint. Q-Bond helps body repair technicians minimise the need to order spare parts and reduce vehicle downtime.Q-Bond: the brand for repairing plastic and metal parts

Q-Bond’s solutions
The Q-Bond range is based on a deliberately limited number of complementary products:
- a cyanoacrylate repair adhesive, which can be used on its own for bonding;
- a black reinforcing powder, designed for plastics, rubber and composites;
- a grey reinforcing powder, designed for metals and alloys;
- repair kits combining adhesive and powders in a single pack.
Introduction to the Q-Bond brand
A brand born out of repair
Q-Bond was developed in response to an observation shared by all workshops: a large proportion of replaced parts have only a localised defect. A broken tab, a split edge or a missing lug is enough to render an entire component unusable. The brand has therefore devised a system capable of rebuilding material where it has been lost, rather than simply bonding two pieces together.
This approach explains Q-Bond’s unique position amongst adhesive products. Whereas a conventional adhesive is limited to surfaces that fit tightly together, the Q-Bond method allows a gap to be filled, a shape to be restored and a weakened area to be reinforced. Over the years, the brand has established itself in garages, mechanical workshops, industrial maintenance, the boating sector and the motorcycling industry.
The brand’s strengths
Q-Bond’s primary advantage is its speed of application. The mixture of adhesive and powder sets in around ten seconds, allowing repairs to be built up in successive layers without any waiting time. The second strength is the wide range of substrates it covers: hard plastics, polyethylene, rubber, carbon fibre, composites, aluminium and most metals.
The third strength lies in the post-repair process. A cured Q-Bond repair can be sanded, primed and painted. It therefore integrates seamlessly into the standard repair process for a bodywork component. The brand also provides a technical data sheet, safety data sheets and a REACH certificate, which facilitates its integration into a professional workshop.
Professionals who use Q-Bond
- body repair technicians and automotive painters, for plastic components and fasteners;
- mechanics’ workshops, for brackets, casings and engine compartment parts;
- used car preparers, for minor refinishing prior to resale;
- motorbike workshops, for fairings and covers;
- fleet, machinery and equipment maintenance services.
The Q-Bond method: bonding, filling, rebuilding
The adhesive: the foundation of the system
Q-Bond adhesive is a fluid cyanoacrylate that penetrates cracks and completely impregnates the powder. Used on its own, it bonds metals, plastics, rubber and ceramics, with a temperature range of -55 °C to 82 °C. Its setting time varies depending on the substrate: a few seconds on ABS, longer on metal.
Two powders for two families of materials
The black powder is designed for plastics and flexible or fibrous materials: polyethylene, rubber, carbon fibre, composites and wood. This is the one most commonly used by body repair technicians for bumpers, radiator grilles, headlamp brackets and wing mirror housings. The grey powder is used on metals and alloys, including aluminium, but not stainless steel or copper. When combined with the adhesive, both powders can withstand temperatures ranging from -55 °C to 180 °C.
A simple and repeatable procedure
Every Q-Bond repair follows the same procedure: clean and degrease the area, remove the paint, roughen the surface to create a bond, apply the powder, saturate it with adhesive, then repeat layer by layer until the desired thickness is achieved. The part is then sanded and shaped before priming and painting. This straightforward procedure makes the method easy to teach to a team.
Product spotlight: the Q-Bond mini adhesive kit for plastic repairs
The Q-Bond mini kit brings together the brand’s entire system in a compact format. It contains:
- 2 x 10 ml bottles of Q-Bond adhesive;
- 1 bottle of black reinforcing powder;
- 1 bottle of grey reinforcement powder.
Designed for the workshop, this kit allows you to repair the most common minor damage to a vehicle without having to wait for a replacement part:
- rebuilding headlamp or tail-light mounting brackets that have been torn off;
- repairing cracks and tears in plastic bumpers;
- refinishing clips, tabs and pins on the grille;
- reinforcing wing mirror brackets and housings;
- repairing trim, covers and plastic parts in the engine compartment;
- refinishing fairings and fixings on two-wheelers.
With two powders in the same pack, the mini kit is suitable for both plastic and metal parts. The adhesive has a shelf life of twelve months when stored in a cool, dry place, with the bottle kept upright and resealed with its applicator tip. The powders, however, do not expire. It can be easily stored in a preparation room or in a service vehicle.

Why choose Q-Bond
Q-Bond provides body repair technicians with a practical solution to an everyday problem: a part that is generally sound but rendered unusable by a localised defect. Rather than ordering a complete replacement part, the workshop can repair the damaged area in a matter of minutes, at a very low material cost.
The brand also stands out for the consistency of its range. A single system, a single procedure and two powders cover the vast majority of materials found on a vehicle. For the workshop, this means fewer product codes to manage, quick familiarisation for all operators and a repair that is compatible with the paint finish.
Frequently asked questions about the Q-Bond brand
What sets Q-Bond apart from a conventional instant adhesive? The reinforcing powders. These enable the repair of material loss and the reconstruction of a shape, whereas an adhesive alone is limited to bonding two surfaces together.
Can Q-Bond repairs be painted? Yes. Once cured, the area can be sanded like a hard material, then treated with the appropriate primer for the substrate, followed by the base coat and clearcoat.
Is Q-Bond suitable for polypropylene bumpers? On PP or PP/EPDM-type plastics, preparation is crucial: thorough degreasing, vigorous sanding and the use of black powder. A preliminary test on an inconspicuous area is recommended.
Can Q-Bond be used on all parts of a vehicle? No. Q-Bond is intended for non-structural components: fixings, trim panels, fittings and parts of bumpers. It is not a substitute for an approved repair on a safety or structural component.
