Plastic Putty: the ideal solution for repairs on synthetic bodywork substrates

In the field of car bodywork, some repairs require products that are suitable for use on modern plastic materials. Automotive Plastic Putty is specially designed for this type of work. Thanks to its specific formulation based on polyester resin and high-performance Additives, it can effectively repair plastic parts, whether bumpers, shells, mouldings or interior components.

Technical characteristics of Plastic Putty :

Plastic Putty has exceptional adhesion to synthetic substrates, including difficult plastics such as PP, ABS and PC. It is highly flexible, allowing it to follow the natural deformations of plastics without cracking.

Its supple, homogenous texture makes it easy to apply, ensuring precise shaping and fast drying. What's more, its compatibility with primers and paints ensures an impeccable finish, even on the most exposed areas.

The main techniques of Plastic Putty include:

  • A reinforced polyester base for optimum durability
  • Excellent adhesion to rigid or semi-flexible plastics
  • Fast curing to save time in the bodyshop
  • Easy sanding without clogging the abrasives
  • Smooth, uniform finish, ready to receive paint or Clearcoat

The benefits of Plastic Putty for professionals:

Automotive Plastic Putty has been developed to meet the specific needs of professional bodybuilders looking for performance, reliability and efficiency.

Here are its main advantages:

  • Optimum adhesion to Plastic substrates: unlike Universal putties, it is formulated to cling firmly to synthetic materials, even in low-porosity areas.
  • High elasticity: it remains flexible enough to withstand shocks and vibrations, preventing cracking on repaired parts.
  • Smooth, clean application: its homogenous texture means it can be applied evenly, without air bubbles or excess thickness
  • Fast drying and easy sanding: it can be sanded shortly after application, reducing service time
  • Professional results: it provides a smooth, solid and durable finish, compatible with all common automotive paints

Whether you need to rebuild a broken part, fill a deep scratch or correct a slight deformation, Plastic Putty is the ideal tool.

It is particularly recommended for :

  • Bumpers and rocker panels
  • Mirror caps and trim elements
  • Rigid plastic interior parts

Its professional formulation ensures perfect, long-lasting adhesion, while providing controlled flexibility adapted to the constraints of Plastic substrates.

Plastic Putty is a must-have solution for all bodywork workshops wishing to repair synthetic parts effectively. Combining flexibility, adhesion and resistance, it produces a solid, aesthetic repair, while reducing the time needed to carry out the work. It's a high-quality product, designed for demanding professionals who want to guarantee their customers impeccable finishes on all types of automotive plastics.

How do I use Plastic Putty in car bodywork?

Easy to use on bodywork surfaces, Putty Plastic is specially formulated for repairing and rebuilding plastic parts such as bumpers, mirror caps and rocker panels. Its flexible polyester resin-based composition gives it optimum adhesion and elasticity, essential for this type of material. To ensure a solid, long-lasting repair, here are the steps to follow:

1. Prepare the surface before application :

A successful repair depends above all on careful preparation of the substrate:

On certain difficult plastics (PP or PE), we recommend applying an adhesion promoter before the Putty.

2. Preparation:

Plastic putty is a two-component product: it must be mixed with a specific Hardener just before application.

  • Place the required quantity of Putty on a clean mixing plate.
  • Add approximately 2 to 3% Hardener
  • Mix carefully with a spatula until a uniform colour is obtained, without streaks or bubbles.

Inconsistent mixing can lead to uneven drying or loss of adhesion.

3. Applying the Plastic Putty :

  • Apply the Putty with a flexible spatula, in thin, even layers.
  • For a deep repair, apply several successive coats rather than a single thick layer.
  • Avoid overloading and air bubbles to maintain an even surface.

Plastic Putty offers perfect adhesion to rigid or semi-flexible substrates, but should not be applied to untreated or very flexible plastics.

4. Curing time :

The curing time depends on the ambient temperature and the dosage of Hardener :

  • At 20°C, complete drying takes place in 20 to 30 minutes.
  • At low temperatures, allow a longer drying time.

Do not use excessive heat to accelerate curing: this may alter the flexibility of the product.

5. Sanding and finishing :

Once the Putty has hardened:

  • Sand coarsely with P120 to P180 grit to sculpt the shape
  • Finish with P240 to P320 grit before applying a filling primer or finishing putty.
  • The surface must be smooth, even and free of pores before painting.

6. Paint and protection :

Plastic Putty is compatible with the majority of automotive primers, paints and Clearcoats. For best results:

  • Apply a Plastic primer before painting.
  • Respect the drying times between each stage to avoid reactions between coats.

The use of Plastic Putty is based on three essential principles:

  1. Thorough preparation of the substrate
  2. Precise, even mixing of the product
  3. Thin, well-sanded layers.

Used correctly, it enables professional bodybuilders to obtain a solid, flexible and durable repair, guaranteeing a clean and aesthetic finish on all the Plastic parts of a vehicle.
